The brief

Everybody knows, Nigerian weddings are all-out affairs, bursting with food, music, color and dancing. Ovue and Ade, a couple originally from Nigeria but long established in Pennsylvania, found the perfect cross between their cultural traditions and Western-style celebration at the Belmond Hotel Piccolo Sant’ Andrea in Taormina. This dreamy, luxury hotel is on the water and offers marvelous and panoramic terraces, outstanding food, and service.

The three-day event included a more informal rehearsal dinner which was held in restaurant in a dominating position with views that swept from the Etna volcano all the way to Isola Bella.

The wedding day started early with make-up artists that had arrived from London and a first breakfast with the bridal party. The ceremony was in the late afternoon to avoid the peak of the hot July day. Guests were delighted to find chilled drinks and freshly made sorbets in a cart before being seated for the ceremony in the gardens.

The reception and dinner were on the terrace, overlooking the sea and the serene bay.

Ovue had a real passion for flowers and opulent tables, and chose a cream palette and a tightly packed floral compositions predominately made of roses with almost no greenery. Her sister, a graphic designer, was in charge of all printed matters, starting from the wedding invitations and including the printed menus and give-aways for the wedding.

The passion that both bride and groom shared was the music, of course. “A Nigerian wedding must have a lot of music and dancing”, they kept saying. For the purpose, they brought along a DJ who had the playlist ready for the most perfect Nigerian wedding.

A part from the beauty, fun and laughter were the main feature of this wonderful couple’s wedding.
